The resume isn’t the military spouse, meet Peggy de Villiers.

Totally ignore the resume of a military spouse. Military spouses come in all forms. You may see a hot off the press 18 year old newlywed who has never had a "real job", all the way through industry leading professionals who've been in the workforce for several...

Military Spouses are Agile, Meet Emerald Trejo

Being a "dependent" is the worst. Military spouses get a bad rap for being "dependas" and mooching off their service member. I am a fiercely independent woman and being called a "dependent" makes me vomit in my mouth every time I hear the word. This week, I discovered...

Military Spouses are Determined and Passionate, Meet Deidre McVay-Schulmeister

A little bit of grit, and a whole lotta love. Military spouses are just that... spouses. Military spouses all have something in common, they married a service member. Many people say, "You knew what you were getting into when you married a soldier." HECK NO! Not true....

Milspouses Adjust Quickly, Meet Shirley Walker-King

Washington, DC – In May 2019, Begin Within was nominated for Best Military Spouse Owned Business for the 2019 Military and Veteran Choice Awards during the inaugural award ceremony, hosted by the Military Influencer Conference, PCS Grades, Task & Purpose, Blue Star Families, and GovX

On September 10, 2019, Begin Within is the winner of the Number One Overall Military Spouse Owned Business at the MVC Choice Awards in Washington, DC.

About the Awards and Conference:
The MVC Choice Awards were built to celebrate brands that provide outstanding service to the military community and who help make the difficult parts of military and veteran life feel a little less difficult.

Medal of Honor recipient and Chief of Staff for Boeing Commerical Airplanes, Florent “Flo” Groberg, presented Jaime Chapman, Founder, and CEO of Begin Within, with the award on stage in Washington, DC in front of over 1,000 attendees.

The MVC Choice Awards can be viewed in the same light as the People’s Choice Awards in the entertainment industry. In a similar fashion, the MVC Choice Awards are determined by fellow service members, veterans, and spouses in the US military and veteran community.

Speakers at the conference included media personalities and moguls alike – including Pat Flynn, CEO of Smart Passive Income; Mark Rockefeller, CEO of StreetShares; Colin Wayne, CEO of Redline Steel; Val Nicolas, VP Creative Director of NBC News; and Brianna Keilar, CNN Anchor.

About Jaime Chapman:
Chapman graduated from Valiant High School in 2008, Cameron University in 2012, and Southern New Hampshire University in 2015, and has also spent the past decade globe-trotting all over the world with the US Army as both a veteran and military spouse.

In addition to finding success as an entrepreneur, Chapman has left her mark through philanthropic endeavors – advocating for military spouse employment opportunities. She serves as a non-profit Career and Employment Advocate for over 10,000 military spouses, working tirelessly to reduce the staggering 24% unemployment rates due to the difficulties of frequently moving with the military.

Chapman feels military spouses are truly unsung heroes, standing alongside the military in the fight for freedom. Without complaint military spouses make huge career sacrifices to manage household affairs while service members are repetitively sent overseas to war.

Discussing her experiences in the military community, Chapman states: “Serving fellow military spouses is my lifeblood. Having lived in the military community for nearly a decade, I see firsthand the struggles that come with this lifestyle. I’ve felt the hardship personally when my husband was in Afghanistan as I gave birth to our son. In nearly 4 years of marriage, we’ve lived in 3 different homes and moved overseas – with another relocation in store for 2020. As a military spouse, you either grit it out to thrive or this lifestyle eats you alive.”
